"Excuse me" is an insidious expression of apology that is over used heavily by the untrained persuader because it is mainly spoken unconsciously. Neuro-linguistic programming theory states expressions like "excuse me" work against the persuader by reinforcing a weak image projection. Humble Is Not Persuasive!
Never apologize in front of anyone who can affect the outcome of your proposal, especially over a trivial act like standing in the wrong place.
